How do I know if my home contains Asbestos?

If your home was built before 1990, it is likely it will contain Asbestos Containing Material. The only definitive way to be certain is to have a sample of the material tested at a licensed testing laboratory.

A visual inspection cannot ascertain whether materials do contain asbestos.

At All Southern Asbestos Removal, we advise to treat all suspect material as though it does contain Asbestos and recommend it be removed by a licensed Asbestos Removalist

Should I buy a house containing Asbestos and is it safe to live in?

Asbestos sheeting in good condition is safe as long as it is not disturbed or broken. If any Asbestos Containing Material becomes damaged or broken it is best to contact a licensed Asbestos Removalist to have removed.

Can I remove Asbestos myself?

Each state and territory may have different legislation but generally you can legally remove up to 10 square metres of bonded Asbestos Containing Material. You can only legally do this if you are fully trained and follow all relevant guidelines and regulations and use the correct equipment.

Removing ANY amount of Asbestos can be dangerous which is why All Southern Asbestos Removal advises to have ALL Asbestos removed by a licensed Asbestos Removalist

My house has an Asbestos Roof. Is it Safe?

Asbestos roof sheeting in sound condition that has not been disturbed is relatively low risk. If the roof is leaking, weathered or unsound, it should be removed. Asbestos roof sheeting is extremely brittle and should never be walked on. This should be left up to licensed Asbestos Removalist

I found some pieces of Asbestos under my house. Can’t I just bury them in my backyard?

Absolutely not!! Apart from being illegal it can pose extreme health risks for anyway that may come across it in the future or if disturbed. It must be safely removed by a licensed Asbestos Removalist
